When
material is layered,
air pockets are created between
layers. This greatly increases the
insulation and warmth factor of any article, and this is even more so
if
natural fibres are used. As an example,
it has been scientifically proven that three layers of cotton material
can
provide as much warmth as one layer of wool. This
principle is the basis of Angel Blanket
construction.
Our
first requirement for
life is air to breath. However, after
that, we can survive longer
without food than we can in freezing temperatures.
In addition, if our body becomes very cold, our
energy level
drops and our mind is not able to function with normal clarity.
There
are countless
homeless people in Australia who live on
the street, in cars, in tents, etc. Many
of these do not even have so much as a blanket to keep them warm when
temperatures drop to zero, and below. Although
some of these people choose to be homeless,
the majority
unexpectedly find themselves in a place that is far beyond their
control, with
no money and in circumstances where they cannot even start to help
themselves. I would like to see an Angel
Blanket available for every person who does not have any sort of
blanket to use
on a cold winter's night.
It is
possible to create
very, very warm blankets by
layering material like unwanted sheets or linen.
If you were to think about the unwanted linen you
have, I am
sure most of you would be able to find at least a few items in your
cupboard
that could help to change the health and survival rate of people who
are in
desperate need.
If each family everywhere were to make just one Angel
Blanket, think how many people could be saved from the bitter cold and
ill
health homeless or very poor people suffer from. Or
perhaps you could get together with a
group of friends where all could share your resources and talents in a
community project - perhaps making it an annual event just prior to
winter.
To offer a helping hand or an Angel Blanket to
anyone is
need, including a stranger, is truly a spiritual deed of high value. Will you help me please?
